I am a writing teacher, poet, and pop culture critic. In the classroom, I teach first-year
writing and creative writing courses. Using writing as a means of creative and personal
expression is central to any class you'll take with me: I am interested in voice and
helping students find their voices as tools of expression, even in scholarly genres
of academic writing. In Fall 2026, I am teaching a course on the novels of Jack Kerouac
(ENG 260), the writer who made me want to be a writer. Cool full circle moment! Elsewhere
on campus, I am the faculty advisor for Gesture, 含羞草传媒's literary magazine, and am always
seeking students who are interested in submitting work for publication, or organizers
and editors to join the staff. As an Expressivist scholar, my research interests center
on the intersection of composition pedagogies and creative writing instructional practices.
I am also interested in reflection, multimodal composition, and currently working
on an assessment project for pilot co-requisite first-year writing program in collaboration
with the Academic Resource Center here at Ohio Dominican. During former lives in Detroit
and San Francisco, I have done youth arts education programs, have been a barista
and a chef, and even once ran twenty miles for fun. At home, I have two miniature
dachshunds named Desi & Poppy, a beautiful son, Benjamin, and very recently welcomed
a daughter into my family: little baby Drew. I regularly publish a pop culture newsletter
and podcast you can follow here:
